Pinterest is probably not the first thing that pops in your mind when thinking of how to grow your business. However, once you recognize the potential Pinterest has to positively affect your business, you will think you were crazy for not having one before!
What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a social media platform that allows users to visually share their interests. It offers a wide variety of topics to explore such as food, fashion, art, parenting, sports, tattoos, history and basically anything you can think of. While exploring these topics (or typing in your own search), users are able to “pin” something they like to one of their own personal boards. It basically allows you to save things you are interested in and want to come back too, like products, recipes, fitness workouts, or crafts, all in one place. It is like a giant collection of ideas and inspiration! In fact, 70% of users say they use Pinterest for inspiration on what to buy!
Why use Pinterest?
With 100 million active users, Pinterest is a great opportunity for businesses to gain more exposure and share their brand. Driving more traffic to your site is just one of the many advantages of Pinterest. It is estimated that an average number of six website visits is generated by one pin! Whether you are selling a produce or a service, Pinterest can be beneficial for both. 43% of users agree that they use Pinterest to associate with retailers or brands with which they identify with.
Pinterest users don’t necessarily log onto Pinterest with the intention of buying something. Majority of users find Pinterest entertaining, and use it to help pass time. However, this often leads to purchases as 87% of users have purchased something because of Pinterest. That being said, creating a Pinterest for your business should be a no brainer since it is bound to lead to more web traffic, sales, or just an increase in awareness of your brand.
How Can I Use Pinterest for My Business?
First, create an account as a business and not just a personal account. This is because as a business you will have access to free analytic tools to monitor your performance on Pinterest. If you already have a Pinterest account for your business, but it was created as a personal page, you can convert it to a business page. When you begin to pin, there are some tools that will help you use Pinterest to its full potential.
To make pinning extremely easy, add the Pinterest button to your browser so that you are able to pin whenever you come across something. People will begin to notice the types of things you discover and pin, and you will start to grow your follower base. Your pins are not just seen by your followers, but are also seen by the followers of a user who repins your pin and so on. A pin has the ability to be viewed by so many different people that liking, commenting, and pinning often could go a long way.
When you pin something, you aren’t just pinning the image but also the site it originally came from. So pin things from your own website, but don’t go crazy on promoting. Make sure you add some other boards and pins that are relevant to you, but not directly related. For example, a car dealership could create a board for pinning cars that are available from their site, but also one for car tips or images of classic cars. People are not going to be interested in your page if all you do is try to sell them something. Also, remember to take full advantage of optimizing your pins by using keywords and locations. Even though there is more to a pin than just an image, the image shown is what people first see. Therefore, having a good quality photo makes all the more reason for pinners to click on the pin and hopefully repin it! Lastly, Pinterest is like a way to plan for the future and about 50% of orders from Pinterest happen two and half months after they were pinned, so don’t get ahead of yourself if you feel like things aren’t working. Be patient.
Pinning consistently is important so your boards look full and up to date. If you want to use Pinterest but feel like you don’t have the time, our internet marketing agency can help!
