If you are a Snapchat user, we’ve all been wondering the same thing. What is Snapchat Memories? Some may think it is just the little dot that has appeared at the bottom of the screen, but it is much more than that. Snapchat has now created an update that enables users to save their snaps within the app. Memories back up snaps to Snapchat’s servers and puts snaps together based on location. Keep on reading to find out all the details on the newest social media update that can help market your business!
What Is Snapchat Memories?
How to Use Memories
The first step is to update the Snapchat app for iOS or Android. Users are notified by Team Snapchat when the Memories feature is available for their account. In order to use the update, swipe up from the camera to access the Memories folder. For first time users, opt-in by pressing the “Start Using Memories” button. From there snaps will automatically be saved to the Memories folder and previous snaps will import from the user’s device as well. For iPhone users, these pictures or videos will also be saved in an album called “Snapchat” in your photos.
Memories has a series of tabs that let users switch between viewing snaps, stories, and your camera roll. There is also a tab called “For My Eyes Only” that enables the user to save content that only they are allowed to access. To use this security, first press and hold on the snap, then tap My Snap, and select “Move to My Eyes Only.” In order to view it, one must enter in a passcode or passphrase. Users will not have to wonder what is Snapchat memories anymore!
Make a Memory
To make a memory, create a snap as one usually would. Users can add in filters, geotags, stickers, and captions to design the snap to their liking. Then, tap the “Save” icon as one would to save the snap to the camera roll. Rather than the snaps saving instantly to the camera roll, they are now saved to the Memories folder.
You also have the ability to create a story from snaps within the Memories section. First, press and hold on an individual snap and tap “My Snap” at the top of the screen. From there, tap “Create Story from This Snap” and select any other snaps you want to include in the story. Now the user is able to save it to the My Story section or send it to as many friends as they please.
Upload a Memory
Another neat feature that is included in Memories update, is the ability to upload a snap from the camera roll or gallery and import it into the users story. Keep in mind one can only upload snaps that have been saved to their phone, not photos taken from your regular camera. To upload, go to Snapchat’s settings and find the Memories section. Then, select “Import Snaps from Camera Roll” and it is ready to go! If a snap is posted to a story that was taken earlier than the past 24 hours, there will be a time stamp with a frame around it to inform viewers that it was not recently taken.
How to Turn Off Memories
In the Snapchat settings, go to the Memories section and find the “Save To…” section. Here it gives users the option to save snaps instantly to Memories, Memories and Camera Roll, or Camera Roll Only. Select your preference and you’re done! This section also gives users the ability to save stories to My Eyes Only by default.
So, what is Snapchat Memories? This feature now enables users to save, upload, and share unforgettable memories from any moment in time with all of their friends. The new Memories update may not be available to all app user’s quite yet, but within the next month is should be accessible to all devices.
